When Jeri died, I was so used to having a hamster around that
I had to buy a successor, so I bought her on December 21st 2000. In
the picture above, she's got a "spiky" look going for her - this is because the
daft thing managed to fall head-first into my cup of tea one day! After the
initial "oh-my-God-what-should-I-do" I realised how funny it was....No long-term
damage was done, and she soon cleaned herself up, but she took a while to dry
off properly, hence the look :)
Sab was a very intelligent rodent. I used to let her run
around on the floor of my bedroom, as she was very well behaved and never chewed
any wires. She soon learned how to shimmy up behind the furniture, meaning that
Willow would sometimes find a strange black-and-white
thing sniffing around. That made her very happy of course....Another time, Sab
managed to shimmy up behind the wardrobe and needed a little bit of help to get
her down! Another thing that made me think Sab was very intelligent was how she
seemed to tried to "speak" to me. My theory is that she had learned that humans
communicate vocally, so used squeaks to get my attention. None of my other
hamsters have ever done that.
Sadly, Sabrina became ill towards the end of her life. She
was drinking and peeing a lot, so I think she may have been diabetic. She passed
away on September 1st 2002.
